Mrs. Doris P. Greathouse

Doris Pauline Greathouse affectionately known as "Granny" was born to the late Dora Whaley Stewart and Fowler Stewart March 16, 1926, in Rosedale, Kansas.  Three siblings preceded her in death.

Dorisaccepted Christ at an early age and before her homegoing accepted Christ as her personal Savior.She attended Bruce Elementary and R. T. Coles School in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was the greatest mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family..  Her life was spent giving and caring for others.

Doriswas a devoted wife to her husband Odell Greathouse.  They enjoyed many wonderful years together.

Doris Pauline Greathouse departed this earthly life on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Odell Greathouse of the home; son, James McCleveland; daughter, Phyllis Woodson; grandchildren, LaShonda Fletcher, Dana McCleveland, Kendra Jackson, Alicia Williams, Ashlee Jackson and Phillip Jackson; great-grandchildren, Asaan Williams, Shandalyn Fletcher and Phillip Jackson II; sister, Virginia Stewart; brother, Jasper Stewart; extended family, Van Greathouse, Karen Greathouse and Randy Greathouse, Ms. Angela Williams who was like a daughter to her; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Sheffield, Ozell Ellis and Margaret Blakely; one brother-in-law, John Paul Greathouse and a host of people whose lives she has touched.

Services for Mrs. Greathouse will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Divine Temple Miracle House of Prayer with pastor Larry Robinson officiating.  Burial Monday, December 7, 2009, Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. William L. Payton
“Dank Will”

William L. Payton was born September 13, 1987, to Lillian Meeks and William Payton in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Harrison E. Redmond Sr. and William C. Payton, grandmother, Estelle L. Payton, a sister, Beverly Payton; best friend, Mark Jackson and a nephew, Tyler Creal.

William was baptized at Palestine Baptist Church in Independence, Missouri.  He attended school in Kansas City and Independence, Missouri School Districts.  He loved being around his family and friend.

Williams L. “Dank Will” Payton departed this life on Saturday, December 12, 2009, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mr. Adolphus Mooney
Sunrise: April 7, 1944                           Sunset:  December 12, 2009

Adolphus Mooney was born at K U Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas April 7, 1944, to the union of Adolphus Mooney Sr. and Geraldine Hollingsworth.  Both parents and his beloved sister, Sandra Mooney Jenkins preceded him in death.

At an early age “Dolph” became a member of the Church of the Living God where his uncle, Joe Mooney was pastor.   He resided in Lee’s Summit, Missouri for over thirty years with his wife, Patricia Ann Mooney.

He attended Booker T. Washington and D. A. Holmes Elementary Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1962.  In High School he participated in several sports.    He loved sports and was an avid follower of the Kansas City Chiefs including travel to River Falls, Wisconsin for Chiefs training camp with his family.

Adolphus did his under graduate work at Central Missouri State College from 1962 to 1966, majoring in Business Administration.  On June 6, 1966, he became an official charter member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Zeta Gamma Chapter located at Central Missouri State University (formerly CMSC) in Warrensburg, Missouri.  While at CMSC he was an outstanding athlete, he played football, #32, honorable mention all-conference for 2 years. 

After college in 1969, he met and married Patricia Ann Brown.  To this union two beautiful daughters, Danielle and Rainna were born.

He worked at Bendix as a planner for nine years before being promoted to Section Supervisor where he remained until he retired in 1999.

Adolphus Mooney Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia Ann Brown Mooney; daughters, Danielle Blackman (Brian) and Rainna Mooney; stepmother, Mary L. Mooney; beloved sister, Diane Stevenson (Archie); stepbrother, John Ware Jr.; grandchildren Mario Blackman and Raymier Perkins; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Mooney will be held 10:00 A. M. Saturday, December 19, 2009, at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Emmanuel Cleaver III, pastor officiating.  Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 8:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Mirtice Jones Sands
Sunrise: November 6, 1927                           Sunset:  December 25, 2009

Mirtice Jones Sands 82, was born November 6, 1927, in Minden, Louisiana to the late Randolph and Lyda Berguin Jones.  She departed this life Friday, December 25, 2009, at 1:00 P. M. in Raytown, Missouri.  She was the third of six children.  Her four sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.

Mirtice Jones married the late Jesse B. Sands on September 9, 1943, in Minden, Louisiana.  Two children were born to this union, Jesse B. Sands, Jr. and Celestine Sands.

She was a member and faithful worker of the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas for fifty years.

Mrs. Sands moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1995, shortly after the death of her husband.  She then united with the Kansas City Baptist Temple and remained a faithful member for the past fifteen years.  She was also a member of the American Business Women's Association of Greater Kansas City.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Jesse B. Sands Jr. (Naomi) of Kansas City, MO and Celestine Richardson of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Monica P. Richardson of Dallas, TX, Jesse B. Sands III (Denise) of Lee's Summit, MO, Sharon D. Harvey (Steven) of Irving, Texas, Lisa A. Wiley of Spring, TX; Cassandra R. Melhuish (Matthew) of Santa Monica, CA and Jamila S. Richardson of Dallas, TX; six great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Wiley of Irving, TX, Jocelyn Sands of Lee's Summit, MO, Kendal and Alana Harvey of Irving ,TX, Dylan Melhuish of Santa Monica, CA and Jessica Sand of Lee's Summit, MO and  a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Jones Sands will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 31, 2009, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel North with Pastor Hinton Shockley, Kansas City Baptist Temple officiating.  Burial in XII Gates Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the chapel.

Mrs. Beatrice Crutchfield Starr
Sunrise: October 4, 1920                           Sunset:  December 25, 2009

Beatrice Crutchfield-Starr was born in Taft, Oklahoma October 4, 1920, to Cordelia Nicholson.  She was preceded in death by her mother, husband, Herman Starr, son, Willie E. Crutchfield Sr., daughter, Freddie Mae Cotton, brother, James Nicholson, Grandsons, Bruce G. Carson Jr. and Montell D. Haney and a great-grandson, Marcus Williams, Sr.

Beatrice received her formal education at Manual Tech in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  While in Muskogee, she married Herman Starr.  The couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the early fifties.  Two children, Shirley and Linda were born to this union.

She retired after more than twenty five years of service from AAA Lined Supply where she was the floor supervisor.  Beatrice was a member of East Side New Hope Baptist Church under the ministry of Rev. Charles C. Stephens.  She along with her family later joined Sacred Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ira B. Rentie.  There she served on the Usher board and later the mother board.  After the death of her husband, she joined the Church of Christ.

Beatrice was a very feisty and outspoken person.  She was affectionately known by her family members as “G. Starr” which stood to “Gerdy”. 

Mrs. Crutchfield-Starr departed this life on Friday, December 25, 2009, at the home.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Shirley Jones (Thomas) and Linda Davis (fiancé, William Baker) both of Kansas City, Missouri; aunt, Lela Anderson of Muskogee, Oklahoma; twenty one grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Services for Mrs. Crutchfield-Starr will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel North with Pastor James A. Howard, Sr., New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church officiating.  Burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery Monday, January 4, 2010.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the chapel.
