Mr. Arthur Dalton Alexander, Sr.

Arthur Dalton Alexander, Sr. age 76, was born to Boda Alexander Sr. and Louella Cade Alexander on June 17, 1935, in Elberton, George. Arthur passed August 2, 2011 at Highland Nursing Home in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was educated in the schools Of Elberton, GA. Later, he joined our military serving in the U.S. Army.
He was previously married to Everlena Alexander and four children were born to their union. The married was later dissolved.
Arthur was an ordained Deacon of Friendship Baptist Church. He enjoyed being fashionable, singing in the male chorus, playing dominoes, eating good food and being around family and friends.
Arthur retired from KCATA after 33 plus years as a driver. He also worked security at the Isle of Casino; as a doorman at The Walnuts; and as a bartender.
He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Joseph E. Alexander, Sr. and a sister, Imogene Alexander.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Myra Alexander of the home; four sons Arthur D Alexander Jr, (B. J.), James R. Alexander (Angela), Tracy Workcuff all of the city; and Anthony Moon of Elberton, GA; three daughters , Jean and Alexis Alexander (Anthony) of the city and Evelyn Moon of Elberton, GA; a step-daughter Roslyn D. Christmas, Nellie Alexander and Melvee Clark all of the city; three sisters-in-law, Curtistine Hamilton and Eva Christmas Fuller of the city, and Rose Bray (Phillip) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, Lee C. Christmas, Jr. (Veronica) of the City, Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday Aug 8, 2011, at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Gladys E. L. Simmons

Gladys Ethel Lee Simmons was born in Louisiana on February 6, 1931, to Gladys Lucille (Collins) Simmons and Eli Simmons. She was the third daughter and fourth child of eleven. Gladys was educated through the Louisiana Public School System, graduating in 1948, eleventh in her class. Business school followed shortly thereafter.
In the early to mid 50s, she began her lifetime calling in the healthcare arena: first, as a pathology lab assistant; then, hospital housekeeper, and last, as one of two of the first Negro Nurse Aides at the Louisiana hospital that employed her.
In 1958, our mother relocated from Arizona to Kansas City, Missouri. She had heard a lot about the city and "just wanted to see it." She resumed her healthcare calling at a local nursing home. Soon after, she was hired by an area hospital where she remained for 41 years, until retirement in 1999.
Ms. Simmons was a child of the Great Depression and World War II. Both events had a profound influence on her life. Her lot in life was never easy, but she always kept faith with God, and He brought her through. She lived a full, rich life. She wasn't perfect, but she was generous, honest, hard-working, loving, caring, and very strong.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, three sisters, two brothers, and two grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory: five children, all of Kansas City, Mo., Ivory D.G. Pearl (Sylvester), Linda C.M. White, Christopher R.L. White (Kristien), Angela C.L. White-Askar, and Sherilyn A.G. Sample; five siblings-Florece Franklin (Allen) of La., Clyde E. Simmons, Gloria M. Simmons both of Mo., Clarence E. Simmons of Tx., and Roger C. Simmons (Caroline) of Md., and many extended family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in-laws; and her many acquaintances and a very few cherished and true friends.
Services for Ms. Simmons were held Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel North Burial in XII Gates Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Gladys Anderson

Gladys Anderson was born in Dumas, Arkansas October 11, 1927, to the parents of Harvey Black and Mattie Anderson. She was one of three girls. Gladys was preceded in death both parents and her sisters.
She received her education in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District, graduating from Lincoln High School. She went on to attend Lincoln Jr. College. Gladys was employed at K U Medical Center as a Lab Tech and the U. S. Public Health Department. She retired from the Kansas City Art Institute Book Store after several years of employment.
Gladys professed her belief in Christ at an early age. She was a member of Progressive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and serve in various other auxiliaries of the church. She loved bowling and her children and grandchildren were her life.
Mrs. Gladys Anderson departed this earthly life on Monday, August 8, 20ll, at the home.
She leaves to forever cherish her memory: her husband, James Anderson of the home; two sons, Ted Anderson and Reginald Anderson; daughter, Janice Marie Anderson all of Kansas City, Missouri; Six grandchildren, James, Kevin, Jason, Henry, Latrisha and Melinda; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Anderson will be held 9:00 A.M. Saturday, August 13, 2011 Progressive Baptist Church with Rev. William Snorgrass, pastor officiating. Burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 8:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the chapel.

Jeffrey Arthur Rouser "Jeff" was born March 20, 1962, in Tougaloo, Mississippi to Ella Lee Rouser and Lee Edward Rouser. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Edward Rouser, sister, Inita Rouser, maternal grandparents, Levora and George Ford and paternal grandparents, Betty and Samuel Rouser.
"Jeff" spent his first years in Tougaloo, Mississippi and at an early age he moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he grew up in a close knit family of sisters, brothers, cousins and friends. He completed his education in the Kansas City School District and worked as an electrician traveling around the United States with his company.
"Jeff" was a loving and caring man, he loved spending time with family and friends and would do anything for anyone. He took great pride in making sure he was dressed nicely and his cars were spotless and he always had funny things to say when he spoke.
Jeffrey was the father of three precious girls.
Jeffrey A. "Jeff" Rouser lost his battle with cancer on Monday, August 15, 2011.
He leaves to forever cherish his memory: his children, Victoria Rouser and Ashley Rouser; his mother, Ella Davis all of Kansas City, Missouri; stepfather, Henry Lee Davis of Arizona; seven sisters, Vonita Paul, Gail Rouser-O'Neal (Greg) both of Kansas City, Missouri, Sherrilyn Rouser and Wanda Davis of Inglewood, California, Ruth Fay Davis, Georgia Jones and Tina Davis; three brothers, Tommy Davis, Henry Lee Davis, Jr. and Ervin Hollinger all of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter, Anijah Ramson, two aunts, Helen Hope (Hulett) of Gary, Indiana and Hattie Cusack (Frank) of Buffalo, New York; three uncles, Arthur Ford of Chicago, Illinois, George Ford Jr. of Gary, Indiana and Henry Ford (Eleanor) of Jackson, Mississippi and best friends, William Paul and Keith Clardy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Mr. Rouser were held Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Michael E. Brooks officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Wilbert D. Robinson

Wilbert D. Robinson quietly slipped away from us on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the University Of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Wilbert was born in Topeka, Kansas November 24, 1946, to the late Luther and Charlene Robinson (Grant). Also preceding his death were four brothers, Luther, Eugene, Charles and Dorman Robinson; three sisters, Barbara, Zelma and Marceline.
Wilbert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age, united and baptized in the Antioch Baptist Church, Topeka, Kansas. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri, Wilbert joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church and in May 2004, joined Concord Fortress of Hope Church. He was a member of Men in Action and Greeters Ministry.
Wilbert graduated from Topeka High School in Topeka and attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas before joining the united States Marines Corp, where he served during the Vietnam Era as a photographer. Wilbert received the following medals: Good Conduct Medal w/2* Purple Heart-1968, Pres. Unit Citation, Merit Unit Comm., M.C. Exped, Marksman Badge Rifle & Pistol, Nat. Def. Serv., Vietnam Service, Rep. Of Vietnam Merit Unit Citation, 3rd Marine Div., Republic of Vietnam Campaign w/2*.
On March 15, 1969, Wilbert married his wife Brenda of Kansas City, Missouri.
He had many accomplishments in his life such as owner of Brookwood Photography, Topeka, KS, Photo Manager, Photo Lab., KC Star; Contract Specialist, US Army Corp of Engineers, Bronco Rider, Historian and Storyteller in leading roles, the Great American Wild West Show, CEO, Black West Presentations, Inc., Created and developer of Cowboys of Color Educational History Game. Wilbert retired from the U. S. Corps of Engineers in 1997.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Brenda Robinson; a dearly beloved sister, Elnora Moore, Davenport, IA; two stepsons, Don and Byron of Kansas City, MO; a granddaughter, Khyheshia Nicole of Minneapolis, MN; very special cousins who were like brothers and sisters, Frances (Richard) Ridley, Marie Bradley, Marjorie (Alfred) Goodwin, Kathy (Billy) Moore, late Kingsley Frey, Jr. (Lillian); a very special niece, Tawana Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Robinson will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Concord Fortress of Hope Church with Pastor Ronald R. Lindsay officiating. Burial 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 29, 2011 in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Reginald Williams

He grew up in both Fort Smith, Arkansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Reginald attended W. W. Yates Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High and Lincoln Senior High Schools. He went on to attend Penn Valley College during his younger years where he earned an Associate Degree in Restaurant Management.
Reggie as he was known in the old neighborhood on 12th Street was a friendly and caring individual. He always had time to chat with anyone in and around the Kansas City area. He could easily make anyone smile and laugh out loud. He accepted Christ at a young age at Greggs Tabernacle AM E Church. Reggie was employed for many years at Denny’s Restaurant near downtown Kansas City. He loved participating in church related activities, going to movies and reading books of all kind.
He called Plaza Manor his home for the past six years or so. Reggie bonded with the residents and staff there. He had numerous visitors including his sister and other family members and friends regularly. As his health began to fail his heart became his biggest problem very recently. On August 12, 2011, critically ill he was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza. Reggie lived about two weeks and passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2011, in CICU. Reggie had a big heart and a giving spirit. He loved his family and friends and he was loved by them in return.
He leaves to mourn: his younger sister, Mamie Evans; four nieces, Michelle, Marla, Melanie and Mia; great nieces and nephews, Jenna, Jordan, Adam and Alexander and a host of other relatives and friends.
