Mrs. Palestine Whitmore McDonald

Palestine Whitmore McDonald was born March 20, 1940, to the union of Golie Whitmore and Mary Francis Clay Whitmore in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by both parents, her maternal and paternal grandparents, husband, William A. McDonald Jr., daughters, Denise Javeed and Palestine Cole, two sisters, Donna Reams and Naoma Summers, a brother, Michael Whitmore Sr. and a paternal aunt, Grace Mitchell.

She was educated in Kansas City, Missouri Public School District.She attended Manual Vocational School where she took dressmaking and cosmetology receiving certificates of completion in both subjects.For years she worked at the Sterling Company in the River Quay area until the business closed.She went on to work in management at Pizza Hut until she retired.

Palestineaccepted Christ as her personal Savior and was a baptized member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.In later years she attended Thirty Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed.She was an avid bowler with the Mark Twain League at Ward Parkway Bowl.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2009, Palestine was called home to be with her Heavenly Father at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.All who knew Palestine or "Momma Pat" as she was lovingly called by family and close friends looked to her for guidance and knowledge.She was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to celebrate her homegoing: two sisters, Rosalind (Philandis) Hayes and Grace (Chuck) Talley; two brothers, Calvin R. Whitmore all of Kansas City, Missouri and Donald L. (Yolanda) Whitmore of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a special friend, Mr. Willie Bryson of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. McDonald will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Thirty-Fifth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Donald W. Black, I pastor officiating.Burial in Highland Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 A. M. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Viola S. Tillman
Sunrise: May 5, 1911                           Sunset:  October 17, 2009

Viola Tillman the daughter of the late George and Lugenia Sutton was born May 5, 1911, in Sunflower, Mississippi. 

She her early education began at the Garven Ferry School on Indian Bayou.  She was later transferred to Durant Elementary School, Columbus, MS and later transferred to Indianola Colored High School.  Mrs. Tillman was a farmer and was the first black woman to be employed with the Modern Line Product Company as a custodian where she retired from in 1976.

Viola confessed a hope in Jesus Christ Augsut,1923, at Bayou Hill CMEChurch in Durant, MS.She later joined Bayview CME Church.In 1946, she united with Center CME Church in Winona, MS working in whatever capacity assigned her.In 1994, she moved to Roeland Park, KS and united with Jamison Temple CME Church under the leadership of Rev. David Bryant Jr.She attended Sunday School, was a member of the Senior Choir and treasurer of the Minnie Hendricks Missionary Circle.

Viola S. Tillman passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Grandview Manor in Grandview, MO.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Ann Tillman of Kansas City, MO; son, Thomas (Doretha) Tillman of Independence, MO; granddaughter, Denise M. Hart; great-granddaughter, Isis Manier McClendonof Kansas City, MO; one adopted sister, Shelia Sutton Reed of Memphis, TN;adopted children, Mr.  Calvin Waters of Kansas City, MO and Mr. & Mrs. Otis Hall of Indianola, MS; a special friend, Mrs. Velma Clayton of Cleveland, OH and a host of grandchildren, cousins, relatives and friends.

Mr. Curtis Williams, Jr.

Curtis Williams Jr. was born August 25, 1956, to Curtis Williams Sr. and Jackie Hubbard Williams in Kansas City, Missouri.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Dollie Williams, Joseph and Louise Hubbard, three aunts, two uncles; two nieces, Christina Williams and Damette Williams and other relatives.

He accepted Christ at a young age at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ.Curtis graduated from Manual High School in Kansas City, Missouri.He was employed at Gates B-B-Q, from there he went on to work at GSA and from there he further his employment with the Dean family until 1990.Curtis open his own business, Ebony & Ivory Interiors.

Curtis Williams, Jr. departed this life on Friday, October 16, 2009.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Curtis Williams, Sr.; mother, Jackie Williams; two brothers, Paul and Silvester Williams(LaKeshia); one sister, Marilyn Williams; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Williams and Adriennie Willimas; two special aunts, Norma Buford and Betty Hubbard; two nieces and a host of nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, special friends, the Dean family and most of all we don't want to leave out Monolisa and Fredia the two dogs.Services for Mr. Williams will be held 1:00 P. Mrs. Helen M. Bolin

Mrs. Helen Mae Jackson Bolin was born August 1, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the union of Alvin Jackson, Sr. and Eva Mae Houston Jackson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham I. Muhammad (aka Arnold J. Bolin), a son, Mark D. Bolin and a daughter, Gwendolyn I. Broome.

She accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated her life to Christ in 1995. In her later years, Helen attended Penn Valley Community College where she received an Associate of Arts Degree in Laboratory Technology. She was employed at Samuel U. Rogers Health Center as a Lab Technician.  After retiring she became a Foster Parent until her health began to fail.

Mrs. Bolin enjoyed singing, acting and reciting poetry, especially Langston Hughes.

Mrs. Helen Mae Jackson Bolin departed this earthly life on Friday, October 16, 2009, at John Knox Care Center in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: four children, Virginia M. Muhammad, Arnold E. Bolin both of Kansas City, Missouri, Peggy R. Lamar (Lorenza) of Raytown, Missouri and Denise R. Bolin of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Bill Jackson of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Christine Jackson of Los Angeles, California and Lauretta Hudson of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; a special relative, Gwendolyn Holmes of Lompoc, California and a host of nieces ,nephews, relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Bolin were held Thursday, October 22, 2009, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel North with Minister Lorenza J. Lamar, Jr. officiating.Entombment in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Martin R. Lewis, Sr.
Sunrise: September 13, 1918                           Sunset:  October 28, 2009

Martin R. Lewis was born September 13, 1918, in Anniston, Alabama to the union of Richard Lewis and Sophronia Lee. He was the first of three children and was preceded in death by both parents and one sister.

Martin received his education in the Anniston Public Schools. He began his working career at the Alabama Pipe Company as a laborer. During this time Martin became engaged and marriage the girl of his dreams, Edna Lastine Cherry. In Anniston, two children were born, Martin Jr. and Carolyn.  Martin Sr. heard that the pipe company was starting another branch in Kansas City, and asked to go. That is how Martin transported his family to Kansas City.

He continued to work for The Alabama Pipe Company in Kansas City for two more years. He moved on to Sheffield Steel which later became Armco Steel, where he worked in skilled positions moving through the ranks. To subsidize his growing family, Martin started his own business, “Lewis’ Lawn Service.” Starting out he wanted to advertise in the yellow pages, but there was not a heading for his company, one had to be created. So his Lawn Service was the first in the book. His only employees were his sons and grandsons and the business lasted over 25 years. He retired from Armco Steel after 32 years of service.

Martin Lewis accepted the Lord as a young man and became a faithful member of the Church of God. He served as a Trustee, and was especially proud of the care he gave the Church lawn.

Martin R. Lewis Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, October 28, 2009. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 72 years, Edna L. Lewis; eight children, Martin R. Lewis Jr. (Bobbi) of Farmington, CT, Carolyn M. Carter (Donald Sr.) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Harold L. Lewis (Minnie P.) of KCMO, Judith A. McCallop (Roy) of Blue Springs, MO, Ronald D. Lewis (Deborah) of Shawnee, KS., Wanda A. Haynes (Elmer) of Raytown, MO, John G. Lewis Sr. (Benithy) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Joseph F. Lewis (Lillian) of Dallas, TX; and a sister, Anna L. Wright of Elko, NV; 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services for Mr. Lewis were held Monday, November 2, 2009, at Wabash Avenue Church of God with Pastor Algernon C. Baker, Sr. Officiating Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Tyler R. Creal
"Tank"

Tyler Romero Creal was born January 20, 1990, in Kansas City, Kansas, the fourth child born to Zebedee Creal III and LaVerna Meeks. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, LaVerne Meeks and an uncle, Artez Meeks. 

He was affectionately known as “Tank”. He received his education in the Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri public schools. 

Tyler “Tank” departed this life on Friday, October 30, 2009, at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He will be remembered as a lovable and affectionate person. He was extremely playful and had one of the most radiant smiles ever known. He brought warmth, fun and laughter to many moments. Family was extremely important to him. 

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, LaVerna Meeks; father, Zebedee Creal, III, three brothers, Zebedee Creal IV, Levi Creal and Zavier Creal; four sisters, Jazmine Creal, Vernessha Creal, Peace Creal and Hollyn Creal; grandmothers, Lillian Meeks and Lorraine Allen; great-grandmother, Martha Redmond; great-grandmother, Blockmon; niece, Zhnae Creal; two nephews, Marquel Thompson and Wayne Gordon, II; special auntie, Latoya Meeks, and Laverne Meeks; special uncle, William Payton; very close friends, Larry and Rob and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

Services for Mr. Creal will be held 1:00 P. M. Friday (today) November 6, 2009, at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Brooks, Pastor officiating. Burial in Brooking Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the church.
